Griffin Alix Douglas Magoon was born Monday, February 19, 2018 at 12:47pm in Squamish General Hospital, weighing in at 6lbs, 14oz, and a length of 47cm (18in). My Labour was 10-11hrs from start to finish. I brought Griffin into the world with no drugs (not even advil!) and no tearing!! I did have to push for 3.5hrs, but overall, a pretty amazing experience!!
Griffin was having a bit of respiratory distress right after delivery, so after spending a couple hours trying to stabilize him on a CPAP machine, they decided to transfer him to Lions Gate, as there are no paediatricians in Squamish. The Infant Transfer Team were called and transferred him to Lions Gate. Greg followed in his car and I had to wait for an ambulance transfer, which ended up being a couple hours later. On their way to Lions Gate Griffin had a seizure and so was then sent to Children's Hospital. Again, Greg followed in his car.
We ended up spending 5 days at Children's Hospital while they ran the whole gamut of tests to find out the cause of the seizure (EEGs, Ultrasound, MRI, Lumbar Puncture, blood tests, etc) He only had the one on the way to Lions Gate, and otherwise was totally stable. Every test that they ran came back as clear! He was such a trooper the whole time. They would come in to take his blood, and he would not even wake up. He slept through his MRI and everything!!
At the end of the day, they basically told us we have a healthy, happy, and super chill baby!! The nurses and doctors were all very impressed by him, and thrilled to see him thriving so well. We were discharged and headed home on the Friday.
We are all doing so well and loving life together so far!! Greg is off work for 3wks, so it is a great treat to be able to spend so much time together as we bond and get to know Griff. He is such a chill babe, and we could not be more elated. Cedar is also doing great with him. She gives him sniffs and kisses, and when he cries she rushes over to check him out and make sure everyone is ok :)
Thank you everyone for support and well wishes. The Ladies over at Canopy said many of you kept asking about how we were doing and if baby had arrived. We really appreciate it and thank you so much for keeping us in your thoughts!!
I will keep you posted on how we are all doing and also on when I plan to return to work :)
